Anti Microbial

Perrite AM is a comprehensive range of custom-formulated antimicrobial thermoplastic compounds that bring the fi ght against harmful bacteria including MRSA, E-Coli, Salmonella and Pseudomonas Aeroginosa to your application.

PROTECTION

These antimicrobial compounds attack microorganisms at source, preventing problems before they occur. They have been proven to kill >99.9% of both GM+ve and GM-ve bacteria on contact. What’s more, they can also prolong product life by helping to prevent the deterioration, discolouration and bad odours that microbial organisms can create.

Typical applications in electrical appliances, where harmful microbes make stopovers on their way from one person to another, include portable handheld devices plus fixed electrical installations such as electrical light switches, switch plates and pushbuttons. Other applications include sanitary fixtures and fittings, medical equipment and bed panels and accessories

HOW DOES IT WORK?

The natural antimicrobial properties of silver have been recognised since Roman times. Silver is non toxic and completely safe for humans. Atmospheric moisture triggers the gradual release of silver ions in the Perrite AM compound. These ions attack the micro-organisms and destroy the harmful bacteria. Silver does not deteriorate and this controlled release of silver ions last for the lifetime of the product. Our research has shown that different solutions are required for different polymer types and that there is no ‘one stop shop’ solution.

 

TESTING

Articles manufactured using Perrite AM compounds have been independently tested by Trinity University, Dublin and proven to exhibit reductions in bacterial viable counts by more than 99.9%. Perrite will submit your finished articles for free external micro-biological testing and report on the findings.

Samples are tested according to various international recognised test protocols such as JIS Z 2801 and ISO 22196:2007. The active ingredient is approved through EFSA and FDA as suitable for food contact, it is EPA registered and complies with the European Biocidal Products Directive (BPD).
